A TCM Day in Guangzhou

Dates: Available upon request; Offered in: English and Mandarin; Destination: Guangzhou, China

One Day TCM Immersion in Guangzhou: From Pulse to Materia Medica

In Guangzhou, medicine has never lived only in clinics. It simmers in soup pots, hangs in bundles at the herbal market, and is read from your pulse and tongue the way it has been for generations. This one-day experience takes you inside that world: a morning consultation and treatments in a working TCM clinic, lunch built around a medicinal soup, and an afternoon among the herbs themselves.

You'll sit with Dr. Tan Zhifei for a traditional diagnosis, receive two treatments chosen to suit what he reads, and end the day at the Qingping Herbal Market — or in the Guangdong Chinese Medicine Museum, where the tradition is taught and kept.

Your Day With Us

A Day Unfolded

Morning · 9:30 AM

An Optional Hour of Qigong: Zhan Zhuang & Baduanjin

Begin before the clinic visit with an hour of traditional practice: zhan zhuang (站桩, “standing like a post”) — the still, standing meditation at the root of the Chinese internal arts — and baduanjin (八段锦, the Eight Brocades), the gentle eight-movement sequence practiced in parks across China every morning. No experience needed.

Optional add-on · US$162 per person

Morning · 10:30 AM

The Consultation: Diagnosis & Treatments with Dr. Tan Zhifei

Two hours in a working Guangzhou clinic with Dr. Tan Zhifei. It begins the way a TCM visit has for generations — questions, your pulse, your tongue — and continues with two treatments, chosen with the practitioner to suit your diagnosis.

Acupuncture and herbal prescriptions are available at additional cost. A translator can be arranged at the clinic.

Midday · 12:30 PM

Lunch at the Clinic

A simple, healthy lunch without leaving the clinic. At its center: a medicinal soup — the Cantonese habit of cooking herbs into daily food rather than taking them as medicine.

Afternoon · 1:00 PM

The City’s Medicine Cabinet: A Guided Walk

Choose your afternoon. Walk the Qingping Herbal Market with a guide — stalls of dried roots, bark, fungi and blossoms, where Guangzhou has bought its herbs for decades — or tour the Guangdong Chinese Medicine Museum, the largest of its kind in South China, on the campus of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Experience

1.How do I book this experience?

The day runs on request rather than on fixed dates, because sessions depend on Dr. Tan’s clinic schedule. Send us your preferred dates and group size with the enquiry form on this page, and we’ll confirm availability with the clinic by email.

2.What’s included in the price?

US$250 per person covers the TCM diagnosis with Dr. Tan Zhifei, two treatments chosen to suit your diagnosis, lunch at the clinic with a medicinal soup, and the guided afternoon walk (Qingping Herbal Market or the Guangdong Chinese Medicine Museum). Translation support is arranged at the clinic.

3.What is the morning qigong session, and is it included?

It’s an optional add-on at US$162 per person — an hour of zhan zhuang (站桩, standing meditation) and baduanjin (八段锦, the Eight Brocades) before the clinic visit, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. No experience needed, and the group discount applies to it as well.

4.Do I need to speak Chinese?

No. The experience is offered in English and Mandarin, and a translator can be arranged at the clinic for the consultation and treatments.

5.Can I add acupuncture or herbal medicine?

Yes — both are available at additional cost. The clinic will quote these on the day, based on your diagnosis.

6.Is this medical treatment?

No. This is a cultural wellness experience rooted in the traditions of Chinese medicine — it is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or care. If you are pregnant or managing a health condition, let us know in advance so the clinic can advise what’s suitable for you.

2.Which payment methods do you accept?
