Guangzhou | 5 Days TCM Immersive Retreat

Dates: Dec 22 - 26, 2026 | Guests per trip: 6 - 12

In the Heart of Canton — Where Traditional Chinese Medicine Is a Way of Life

/To counter heat and humidity in the south of China, Cantonese turned to centuries of herbal knowledge. Over time, this evolved into a holistic wellness lifestyle focused on nourishment and moderation. Experiencing TCM here means witnessing how wellness is lived, not prescribed.

/Guided by nationally recognized TCM experts, and supported by a bilingual translator trained in both TCM and anthropology, you’ll explore the foundations of energy flow, renewal, and harmony through movement, hands-on workshops, and meaningful TCM immersion.

/From hands-on experiences in herbal therapy and meridian healing, meaningful encounters in Guangzhou’s historic neighborhoods, to cultural experiences of tea ceremony and local craftsmanship, every moment is a conversation between ancient wisdom and modern wellbeing.

Highlights + Benefits

Learn From Nationally Recognized TCM Experts

+ Co-created with Zheng An, one of China's most respected modern TCM organizations, this retreat is led by a licensed TCM doctor with over a decade of clinical experience, an extensive teaching background, and features on national health programs. His approach bridges classical theory with modern rehabilitation insights. After the retreat, you will receive 30 days of post-retreat support — direct access to your physician for TCM and self-care questions as you integrate what you have learned into daily life.

Hands-On, Results-Oriented Workshops

+ Over three immersive mornings, you will explore the living foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine through guided study and practice. Learn the art of Meridian Mapping, awakening energy flow through mindful touch and self-massage. Experience the warming therapy of Moxibustion and the subtle balance of Auricular Acupressure (ear seeding), connecting heat and breath to inner harmony. These are not demonstrations — you leave knowing how to use these practices on yourself.

A Living Culture of Healing

+ Experience Guangzhou through its living healing culture. Wander the fragrant aisles of Qingping Herbal Market, one of China's oldest hubs for medicinal herb trading. Have a traditional tea ceremony on the shores of Liwan Lake, the cultural heart of old Canton. Spend an afternoon with a recognized intangible cultural heritage master of Xiangyunsha , the rare Guangdong craft of dyeing silk using iron-rich river mud and vegetable tannins.

Rest & Restored

+ This retreat is designed to be as restorative as it is enriching. Every meal is curated with intention: seasonal, local, and rooted in Cantonese food therapy — the belief that what you eat should match the climate, the moment, and your body's needs. Between sessions, you will also be treated to TCM-infused massages and a therapeutic head spa, where techniques drawn from meridian therapy and acupressure work to release tension, quiet the nervous system, and bring the body back to rest. This is not a wellness checklist. It is permission to soften.

Daily Program

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome/ Arrive in Guangzhou with our arranged pickups and check into Changxihome, a modern boutique hotel in the cultural quarter of old Guangzhou — a sanctuary of calm tucked into the city's most storied streets. Dinner is served at the hotel. Rest well.

Day 2: Energy Flow & Herbal Wisdom/ Begin your first TCM immersion workshop with Dr. Tan. In the afternoon, wander through Qingping Herbal Market, where the air is thick with the aroma of medicinal herbs and aged resins — one of China's oldest and most alive hubs for traditional medicine. Dinner at the hotel. The evening gives way to a Tui Na massage, restoring circulation and quieting the body.

Day 3: Heritage & Healing in Motion/ Continue your TCM workshop in the morning. Lunch is a signature Lingnan garden meal in the cultural heart of Guangzhou. From there, we step into the historic western quarter: Liwan Lake, where a restorative afternoon unfolds — Guqin music, a traditional tea ceremony, and the slow, grounding flow of Qigong (Baduanjin) beside the water. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4: Food therapy & Craftsmanship / Your final morning of TCM study. Lunch is a medicinal meal designed around seasonal ingredients and food therapy principles. In the afternoon, spend time with a recognized intangible cultural heritage master of Xiangyunsha, the rare Guangdong craft of dyeing silk using iron-rich river mud and vegetable tannins. You will learn the water-print technique firsthand in a mini workshop, working with the same materials and methods passed down through generations. Afterward, settle into afternoon tea in the master's beautiful compound — a space that feels like stepping into another century. The evening closes with a therapeutic head spa, where freshly brewed herbal medicine is used to balance the senses and release the last of what you no longer need to carry.

Day 5: Reflection & Renewal / A slow morning, with an optional guided walk through the Dongshankou area near the hotel. Then a farewell lunch of signature Cantonese yum cha — baskets of dim sum, pots of tea, and the easy warmth of a table shared. Your private transfer to Guangzhou Airport or Railway Station is arranged after lunch.

We will spend 4 nights at Changxi Home, a modern boutique hotel that trades grand chandeliers for warm, thoughtful design. Tucked into Dongshankou, one of old Guangzhou's most storied quarters, it places you among the 1920s red-brick villas of returning overseas merchants, now home to leafy lanes, third-wave coffee shops, and small galleries — with Dongshankou metro just downstairs for the rest of the city.

Come early and you'll find the neighborhood at its best: unhurried mornings before the crowds, the kind that make this retreat what it is. Expect clean lines, natural materials, and a deep sense of place — the kind of hotel that knows when to be present and when to disappear.

Choose a Double for shared comfort, or upgrade to a Single room for heightened privacy.

This retreat is designed to be as restorative as it is enriching.

Every meal is curated with intention: seasonal, local, and rooted in Cantonese food therapy — the belief that what you eat should match the climate, the moment, and your body's needs.
